The President of Ave Maria University Jim Towey released a strong statement saying in no uncertain terms that Ave Maria University will not comply with the HHS contraceptive mandate.
Unfortunately, a provision in the massive health care reform legislation will now force the University to either violate our core beliefs or discontinue health care coverage for our employees, and in the process, pay a steep fine to the federal government.
This is wrong. Ave Maria University rejects this religious intolerance and will not bow down before government regulations that are manifestly unjust.
Towey said the college is also considering legal action against the administration.
Towey, a former Assistant to the President of the United States and Director of the White House Office of Faith‐Based and Community Initiatives from 2002‐2006, said this administration’s Faith Based Initiative is “descending to the level of farce.”

Thank Goodness that Ave Maria President Jim Towey has good strong values and fortitude… The Blessed Mother surely is proud of her namesake University and its leaders.
Obama will not inforce DOMA because as an individual he believes the law is unconstituional. What’s the difference, if Catholics believe that the HHS mandate is unconstituional and will not obey an unjust law. In resisting, please be non violent otherwise Obama and his cronys will further restrict our freedoms under the guise of protecting us. Pray for our country and for a change in its leadership in Nov. 2012.
We need a concerted Catholic Law Suit and not 20 different law suits. Hopefully the Bishops council will co-ordinate that. I say..no deals with Obama again off the cuff..we have seen him viotate all such agreements before..we must have legislation of concience put in place…Rubio’s was a good start if we see this through. It is time for Catholics to WAKE UP to this Socialism Threat to our religious freedom. Sounds great to say SPREAD THE WEALTH…but it leads to imprisonment in the end…aka WW2 example.

The declaration of war against the Catholic Church by the Obama administration is an affront to the constitutional right of all Americans to freely practice their religion. The government has no lawful right to interfere in any way with religious freedom, or the exercise thereof. In his arrogance, Mr. Obama apparently believes that he possesses authority over matters of faith, and that his authority is greater than that of the entire hierarchy of the Catholic Church. He seems to think, also, that he is even above Almighty God Himself! Our country, and all freedom-loving Americans, should fervently pray that God saves us from Mr. Obama
and his treacherous administration!
Mr. Towey..TAKE THAT LEGAL ACTION..! it’s about time for Catholics to stand up for who we are..! We ALL need to stand up with you..! I WILL..
