Patrick Reilly, the President of the Cardinal Newman Society, took to the pages of The Washington Times today to warn the country that the University of Notre Dame and the Catholic Health Association have suggested a compromise with the Obama administration over the HHS contraceptive mandate that undermines the cause of religious liberty.
Amid much Christian angst over Obama administration regulations requiring health insurance cover- age for sterilization and contraceptives – including some that cause abortion – two prominent Catholic organizations, the University of Notre Dame and the Catholic Health Association, have proposed a compromise.
It’s a plan that could leave many religious organizations out in the cold…
With a strong interreligious alliance against the mandate, it is puzzling that Notre Dame and the Catholic Health Association (CHA) would propose to replace what many consider to be an unconstitutional mandate with language that, at best, is only marginally better for a select few.
But that is precisely what Notre Dame and CHA propose, threatening the rights of many religious organizations and insulting our Christian and Jewish brethren. By doing so, these prominent Catholic institutions undermine the interests of the Catholic Church and the defense of religious freedom.

Is it not clear that ND and CHA are now nothing more than political entities in the “liberal” (no they are not actually liberal), “progressive” (no, they are not actually progressive either), left-wing (perhaps fits) machinery. Until the Church at large disavows being a part of the political machinery at all, we will continue to suffer such betrayals. Is it not time the Church gets down to basics?!?!?!?!
What has happen to the Catholicism of ND? What it attempts to do aligning with obama and obamacare is subvert our civil liberty to reject anything proposed by the government that denies our freedom of selection. ND, get your nose out of the obamacare and back into being a CATHOLIC Christian university that supports life and the freedoms of all U.S. citizens. It is either this or remove the name of our Lady, the Blessed Mother of God, as the name of your university. To think I use to admire you from afar even though I was an alumnus of another great university. BUT NO MORE until you get your Catholic Christian philosophy and theology back into the fold.
With the intention of setting aside all of this Communist inspired legalese, the matter of the fact is that – as I was educated eons ago in a Catholic elementary school – the nun I had as a teacher back in the mid 1950′s had predicted that what is now happening to America would happen. For some reason, this prediction had stuck with me all these years. What she had predicted was indeed true. Communism has taken over our government and country, there can be no denying this. This has been allowed because the majority of the country has fallen away from God and they are starting to pay for being such a stiff-necked peoples. It has cme down to a battle of good against evil and unfortunately the evil is winning; until the fools return to God, they can expect to live a life of squalor and serfdom – you can bet on that!
This is very sensitive topics. It is easy to judge, but administrations and religions need to consider this question carefully.
