The Loyola University of Chicago hosted its “Advocate Annual Drag Show” on Wednesday October 26.
The school’s “Student Diversity and Multicultural Affairs” website touted the event by posting an invitation on the website: “Advocate at Loyola University Chicago is proud to invite you to its annual Drag Show.”
“When Catholic parents send their children to a Catholic university they should be able to expect at least basic standards of decency and morality,” wrote Cardinal Newman Society President Patrick J. Reilly in a letter to Loyola’s President last year. “Events like this not only undermine the sacred trust parents have in Loyola University, but may lead to serious personal and social problems caused by confusion about sexuality. Drag shows debase the human person and are an affront to Catholic teaching on the dignity of the human person.”
The first drag show was held on campus in 2008, LUC’s “Official GLBTQ Organization” held a Costume and Drag Show which asked students to “Bring your dollar bills”.
Update: Maeve Kiley, Director of Communications at Loyola University said the university “encourages open discussion” and added that the Jesuit institution, “relishes the opportunity to engage ideas and different points of view.”

At a basic level, people should celebrate however they please, as long as it doesn’t violate the laws of the land. However, the problem with the Jesuits here, as in so many places with them, is they are running what they publicly advertize as Catholic education while not sustaining the type of learning environment the name “Catholic” clearly implies. And that is serious form of public deception and institutional corruption.
Having said that, I really blame parents heavily in all this. The Jesuits have been up to these shenanigans things for many decades, and most people who take the time to look will see this. These parents are sleep-walking.
why are the jesuits allowed to get away with this?? i thought they were supposed to listen to their bishops??? how about Rome??? they better wake up = it is later than they think how can these priests be in good standing in the church, give & receive Comminion, say Mas & turn around & flaunt these very uncatholic practices????
When a school advertises & call themselves “Catholic” they better mean it & practice & teaches what it is to be Catholic & incorporates true Catholic teachings otherwise they have no business doing business as a Catholic school. It is a form of deception & false advertisement & it’s high time Catholic parents who spend money sending their kids to these fake so called Catholic school demand the truth or their money back.
