Belmont Abbey Theologians Participating in ‘Intellectual Tasks of the New Evangelization’

Three theologians from Belmont Abbey College in North Carolina have been chosen by Washington, D.C., Archbishop Donald Cardinal Wuerl to participate in a conference focusing on the task of re-evangelizing our culture.

From the College report:

Dr. Grattan Brown and Dr. Ron Thomas, both Assistant Professors of Theology at Belmont Abbey College, and Dr. Mark Newcomb, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the Abbey, have been selected by Donald Cardinal Wuerl of Washington, D.C. , to participate in a special conference.

Entitled The Intellectual Tasks of the New Evangelization, the conference will bring together a select number of young, Catholic theologians in the nation’s capital from September 15-17 to discuss strategies to help re-evangelize our culture. Only theologians who have received their doctorates within the last five years were eligible to be nominated, and only 50 theologians from the entire U.S. were selected to participate. Fifteen bishops will be in attendance, as well as other invited speakers. One of the goals of the conference is to build relationships between leading bishops and the next generation of theologians. The Knights of Columbus are funding the conference.

Belmont Abbey College is included by CNS in The Newman Guide for its strong Catholic identity.  Read the College’s profile here.

Is the subject “What is the method we will support for catechising the faithful in the pews” to whom we look for evangelization in the trenches. What will be offered to the faithful to help remove the “deer-eyes-in-headlights-look” which is seen when the faithful are told they are to evangelize? Please respond. Thank you.

The KC’s are renewing themselves as well in helping the re-evangelization of Catholics. I have wondered if ordinary KC’s-such as I-have not also wondered when our group would stop using our group (mainly as individuals) to help with the rejection of new human life.
