The Thomas More College of Liberal Arts in Merrimack, New Hampshire, convened a group of Catholic artists this week for an event titled “Beauty and the Renewal of Culture: An Evening with Catholic Artists.”
From the TMC news release:
This rare event brings together some of the most faithful and talented Catholic artists in our time working in the areas of sacred art, traditional painting, and architecture. The discussion will involve portrait painter Henry Wingate, painter and architect David Mayernik, and Thomas More College’s own icon painter, David Clayton.
The discussion will be chaired by Father Thomas Kocik, author of two liturgy-related books, contributor to the New Liturgical Movement web site, and former editor of Antiphon, the journal of the Society for Catholic Liturgy.
These men will discuss the guiding principles of Catholic art and its role in the liturgical life of the Church. Surrounded by examples of their work, each will give short presentations explaining how their work helps to draw the viewer into a deeper appreciation of the beauty, harmony, and order of the universe and, as a result, prepares them to be more fitting recipients of both the dictates of reason and the power of divine grace.
