Christendom College to Celebrate Beatification of Pope John Paul II

Christendom College is planning a series of events to celebrate the beatification of Pope John Paul II this Sunday, May 1.

The College’s public relations office told Campus Notes:

We’re affirming our Catholic identity by joining the Vatican in celebration [of] the beatification of Pope John Paul II, who said, “Christendom College is doing a great work for the Church.” This is the pope that gave us Ex Corde Ecclesia, every Cathollic university should be celebrating big-time.

Dr. Timothy O’Donnell, President of Christendom will be in Rome this Saturday to lead students participating in the College’s Rome Program . . .

on a pilgrimage to sites associated with John Paul II’s student days, from the Belgium College, where he lived, to the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas—also known as the Angelicum—where he studied. The tour will include a special tour of the Angelicum by Fr. Alejandro Crosthwaite who will open the university’s archives to view John Paul II’s dissertation and other records.

Christendom College’s Front Royal, Virginia-based campus will also be commemorating the beatification with several events including: a broadcast of the beatification, a special Divine Mercy Sunday Mass, a performance of of J.S. Bach’s Magnificat, a viewing of the documentary Nine Days that Changed the World, and a Mass in honor of Blessed Pope John Paul II at which the chalice and patten given by the late pontiff to the College will be used.
